Japanese Auspicious Symbol
Unsodo was founded in Kyoto during the Meiji Era, and it is the only company that specializes in publishing books using the technique of Japanese woodblock printing in Japan. From their woodblock archive, we focus on Japanese images considered to be auspicious–the trio of pine, bamboo and plum, and the crane and tortoise. The pine, bamboo and plum combination represents happiness, while the crane and tortoise pair is the symbol for longevity.
